Autumn in the garden. Blue jays and Goldfinch.
This painting was completed in January 2025 and is 18x 24 inches oil on canvas. When the jays return in the fall to my garden to feast on the sunflower seeds it seems to be a peak of birds , flowers and colour. Goldfinches in the pink and white cosmos as well. The sounds and colours are the inspiration here and the painting led me along as I progressed. Often when the painting is done it has a story to tell me and in this one I saw a kind of solar system with the sunflower heads acting as the planets and the blue jay on the right circling around which led to the other jay that pointed to the goldfinches on the flower head and around again. To me it became a metaphor for the cycle of the planets and the cycle of the seasons.
