New Plein Air Painting of Springwater

The shoreline at Springwater is so rich with colour and the beauty of these fallen trees and stumps. This is one of the several 14 x 7 inch paintings that I have painted from the Kayak this Fall. These small paintings are sometimes used back in the studio as references for painting larger versions but I also like the energy in the small ones that comes from painting outdoors.

Farm geese , 8.5 x 8 inches original oil

As the sun comes up I like to drive by my Amish farmer neighbours  and I am always rewarded with scenes that inspire paintings. This is a favorite spot where there are always geese of various kinds. Here I loved the sun and shadow effect as the birds moved in and out of the rising sun, the colours were fantastic. I chose coeruleum blue and magenta from the paint box which are two newer colours for me to try and achieve what I was after. This painting is for sale now at the Museum Londons gift shop until the end of December and prints are always available as well for many of my paintings.

Saturday morning minnow net

This oil is 30 x 26 inches. I decided to head down to Port Stanley for a sunrise to seek reference subjects to paint as I usually go later in the day. For awhile I was the only one walking along the harbour but just as the sun broke over the horizon this fellow began casting his minnow net for I imagine a days perch fishing. The sun caught the water spray and tops of the grasses ,the fishing boats loomed in the back waiting their turn. I loved the contrast of warm and cool colours that I found as the day began.

Every picture tells a story

Another in this little series of still lifes. Sometimes one painting will push you to explore an idea further, here the copper pot paintings got me using venetian red. I also wanted to stay in the same mind set for a few more paintings before painting outdoors or portraits etc. I came across this little brass horse incense burner and it really caught my eye. The painting developed as I went along and the horse became surrounded by spring summer and fall. The lilac buds ready to open from my yard, beech leaves from springwater. SOLD

New Painting. Oil on canvas 9 x 9 inches

My latest still life was inspired by a copper pot that a friend gave me. I have been thinking of a title and think it may be Light Music since for me the light seems to be dancing around in an energetic way from object to object.

New Painting. Old mill at Thamesford. 12 x 7 inches Oil

We passed this beautiful site many times and often stopped to enjoy the view. My son caught a nice pike at the dam and we kayaked up river through the farmers fields as well. It was over 150 years old and was demolished in 2014. I was happy to finally get my memories down in paint. Available as a print on canvas.

Todays Oil Painting

This scene is typical of the countryside as I drive to London from my home. I believe that I noticed that day the striking variety of  colours then later the fence line rolling into the background to the woods ,I loved that. This is what I see not a bunch of cow butts. Painting SOLD
